Takra dhara is a part of panchakarma treatment in ayurveda. Takra refers to butter milk, thus takra dhara is the procedure where by medicate butter milk is poured over the forehead in a continuous stream. A thin strip of cloth is tied around the head just above the eyebrows. The butter milk is heated till it becomes lukewarm. This lukewarm butter milk is poured in to the dhara vessel placed above the forehead of the individual. Medicated butter milk is then made to flow in a continuous and constant stream over the starting over the glabellar region. The medicated butter milk flows from the forehead to the scalp and hair. Mild massage is done over the scalp and hair simultaneously.
